What is Precision CNC Machining?
Precision CNC machining is a high-precision subtractive manufacturing technology that uses computer numerical control systems to drive machine tools for automated material removal. By pre-programming machining paths and parameters, it realizes accurate shaping of workpieces, with far higher precision and repeatability than traditional manual machining. It is the core processing method for custom high-precision mechanical parts, and is widely used in contrast to additive manufacturing technologies such as 3D printing.
Key Precision Machining Methods & Applications
CNC Turning
The workpiece rotates at a high speed around the spindle axis, and the cutting tool moves linearly to remove excess material. It is specially designed for machining axisymmetric parts (shafts, sleeves, discs, pins etc.). Equipped with CNC systems, it can achieve ultra-precise turning of external circles, inner holes, threads and chamfers, and is the first choice for machining rotary metal components.
CNC Milling
The cutting tool rotates at a high speed, and the workpiece moves in multiple axes (X/Y/Z) to complete the machining of complex shapes. It is suitable for manufacturing parts with irregular planar, curved or three-dimensional structures (brackets, shells, precision fixtures etc.). We use multi-axis milling equipment to realize one-time forming of complex parts, reducing secondary clamping errors and improving machining accuracy.
Drilling & Reaming & Boring
- Drilling: The basic process of processing round holes on the workpiece with drill bits, applied to screw installation, assembly positioning and lightening holes.
- Reaming: A fine machining process to slightly expand the pre-drilled holes, which significantly improves the hole surface finish and dimensional accuracy, meeting the high-precision hole requirements that drilling cannot achieve.
- Boring: Used for enlarging existing holes (drilled/cast holes) and machining high-precision inner holes, suitable for the finish machining of large-diameter inner holes of precision parts.
Precision Grinding
Using abrasive grinding wheels to remove a small amount of material on the workpiece surface, it is a super-finishing process for parts with strict requirements on surface roughness and dimensional accuracy. It can make the workpiece surface reach mirror level, and is widely used in the finish machining of precision molds, bearing parts and high-precision matching surfaces.
Broaching
Using a special toothed broach tool to perform linear or rotary cutting on the workpiece, it can machine precise keyways, splines, grooves and special-shaped holes in one pass. The process has high efficiency and good consistency, and is the optimal solution for batch machining of small precision grooves and special-shaped structures.
Wire EDM
Using the electric spark generated by the metal wire electrode to melt and erode the workpiece material, it is suitable for machining complex special-shaped parts, narrow slits and hard material components (titanium alloy, hard alloy etc.) that are difficult to machine with traditional cutting tools, and ensures no deformation of the workpiece during machining.
